For the 58th edition of WorldFest Houston, the longest-running independent film festival in the world, Lopez Negrete partnered once again to reintroduce the festival to a new generation of filmmakers and audiences. Building on a 15-year relationship, the campaign honored the legacy of founder J. Hunter Todd while evolving the brand’s voice for today’s creative culture.
With declining awareness among younger audiences and increasing competition from larger, more mainstream festivals, WorldFest Houston needed to stay culturally relevant without losing its identity as a champion of independent voices.
Lopez Negrete created a visually distinctive and emotionally resonant campaign that celebrated outsiders – “misfits, poets, dreamers, and other odd birds” – as the holders of the true spirit of cinema. Through a series of bold, illustrative posters and social-first storytelling, the work reframed WorldFest Houston as a platform where unconventional voices belong.
The campaign reignited interest, strengthened cultural relevance, and positioned WorldFest Houston as a festival not just with history, but with a future driven by the next generation of storytellers.
